Montserrat Mil·lenari

A 3Cat production in collaboration with LA MIRA and ANTÀRTIDA. Supported by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya through the ICEC.

The docuseries Montserrat Mil·lenari is a production that reviews the most significant moments of the Monastery’s one-thousand-year history, from its founding in 1025 to the present day. The series, consisting of five fifty-minute episodes, combines research, fictionalized historical reenactments, and interviews with top-tier experts and firsthand witnesses, including members of the Benedictine monk community.
Produced by 3Cat in collaboration with LA MIRA and Antàrtida, and directed by Guillem Trius and Javier Corso, the docuseries also features a special, unreleased version of the Virolai (the sanctuary’s anthem) in the opening credits, performed by Maria Arnal specifically for the occasion.

This docuseries joins other projects released this year to commemorate the Monastery’s millennium, such as the podcast Les mil veus de Montserrat (The Thousand Voices of Montserrat). A Catalunya Ràdio production—also in collaboration with LA MIRA and Antàrtida—it gathers stories from a wide range of perspectives including religion, tourism, sports, history, politics, and culture surrounding the sacred mountain.
